The darkroom is destiny. One of my earliest childhood memories was of my dad working in his darkroom circa 1964. I remember seeing poster-size photographic paper floating in the bathtub under red light illumination, a collection of chemicals and an enlarger on the counter, all crammed into the bathroom that he converted to a darkroom.
My early passion for photography caught fire during photo shoots in rural Eastern Washington, visits to State and National Parks in the American West, and of course family trips to Disneyland. Dad carried around a classic Rolleiflex Twin Lens Reflex and he swore by the magic of those medium format cameras with 2 ¼ inch square negatives.
My dream was to get out explore nature through photography. My goal was to understand the technical and creative processes that lead to art and possess those respective skills. Now after a long career in science and technology, here I am.
